Irène Le Corre
Irène Le Corre, a trained Arts and Communications Manager, reconnected with her handwriting and drawing skills in early 2020. Since then, she has been fostering her passion for calligraphy and decorated letters through numerous workshops with international teachers. Her special interest lies in traditional and contemporary illumination.
‘My overall goal for the mentorship project was to explore the “Book of Hours” from different perspectives: traditional (Pagan prayer), contemporary (Rilke: a modern book of hours) and minimalist (Flying away). For each piece, I am using a different material (parchment, paper or porcelain), playing with gilding, cut-outs and transparency to capture light and illuminate the words.’

A set of 3 translucent porcelain pages made of Paperclay Porcelain. Each page has a haïku carved into it. The haïkus are from my Dad’s poetry book Drehpause (translated 'Shooting break') and talk about migratory birds. The birds are painted on the back of the Porcelain sheets and only become apparent when the pieces are illuminated from behind.
