Mabel Khi
A certified SAP consultant, Mabel’s training in information technology and computer sciences is a world away from her interests in calligraphy and botanical watercolours.
Mabel’s love for calligraphy began when she attended a lettering workshop in 2018. Intrigued by how a nib could produce such beautiful lines, she began to pour her energies into learning the Copperplate and Spencerian scripts.
Based in Malaysia, she belongs to a new generation of young calligraphy enthusiasts – resourceful and very hungry for learning. Mabel shares her passion for calligraphy by hosting workshops and a blog, and has even created her own line of shiny metallic watercolour paints, under the label Piqments.
In recognition of her achievements and entrepreneurship, she was invited to participate at Malaysia Art Ecosystem Festival, 2021, organised by the National Art Gallery, Malaysia. There, Mabel exhibited her collection of Alphabet Botanical Collection.
As a mentee under the guidance of Heather Held, Mabel had a chance to deep-dive into her love of botanicals, and combine them with her love of calligraphy.

Summer is a season of bright sun and warm weather, of optimism, hope and adventure. Summer is also a symbolic of growth. "Summer is tomorrow" is a culmination of my work under the mentorship of Heather Held. A season of embracing growth as an artist. In this piece, I explore growing an idea into something more, one step at a time. As I continue, today will grow into a better tomorrow and everything will fall into place.
