An artist based in Singapore

Susan Lui

Susan Lui, has been practising and teaching calligraphy in Singapore for many years. She enjoys calligraphy in traditional scripts (such as Copperplate, Spencerian, Italic, Uncial, Gothicized Italic, Blackletter, among others) and is known for her beautiful flourishing. An avid lover and student of calligraphy, Susan enjoys learning new techniques and combining various styles of calligraphy into a single piece of work.

Susan began exploring the medieval art of gilding and illumination in late 2017. She has had the honour of learning gilding from Rosemary Buczek, Patricia Lovett, Miwako Kawaminami, and Toni Watts, whom she also hosted in Singapore, and now proudly calls her “mentor”. She finds that broad edge work combines especially well with gilded pieces in a classic style.
