This art is a tribute to the artists within our mentoring group: Alicia Márquez, Ines Buteler and Roxana Hernández. The title GRAI is an acronymn formed by the first letter of our names.
The idea stems from our connection through art and language. Marking on a map the situation in which each one lives. Three of us, live outside our native countries. I decided to give each one a basic colour of the CMYK palette.
Like strings that link the places where we live, the adventure began. Within the space that each occupies, I included words that each artist used in her search throughout her project. Each one expressed her own journey or yearnings. And I wrote those words next to their city.
On the box cover I wrote 'Todo lo que nos sucede, incluso nuestras humillaciones, nuestras desgracias, nuestras vergüenzas, todo se nos da como materia prima, como barro, para que podamos dar forma a nuestro arte'. Jorge Luis Borges

About the artist
Gabriela Soba
Gabriela is an artist and a designer with a postgraduate degree in Typography. A lover of bookbinding and calligraphy art, she has been featured in several Editions of Arts Libris (Artist Books). Gabriela’s calligraphy art is emotive, sensitive and lyrical. Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, she has been based in Barcelona since 2007, and she is a beloved calligraphy artist and mentor. She is interested in techniques and media that she uses to reach her goal of creating a graphic work. Her work is always very close to the world of paper and fabric. She has also worked with different recognised brands, and designing spaces. She uses calligraphy in a way that helps her communicate her ideas, as an artist and designer.
